Pick it up by the crown
Hold the tooth by the crown — the white part you normally see — and never by the root.
We keep emergency appointments open every day and will fit you in as quickly as we can.
Mon 8:30 am – 7:00 pm · Tue–Thu 8:30 am – 5:30 pm · Fri 8:30 am – 5:00 pm
Call first — we'll tell you honestly whether it can wait or needs to be seen today.
At an emergency visit we stabilise things first — smoothing a chipped tooth, placing a temporary filling, or dressing an infected tooth — so you leave comfortable. Most emergencies then need a follow-up appointment for the permanent fix: a lasting filling, a new crown, or wisdom tooth removal — always quoted in writing before treatment begins.
A few calm steps before you reach us can make all the difference.
Hold the tooth by the crown — the white part you normally see — and never by the root.
If the tooth is dirty, rinse it gently in water or milk. Nothing more — no scrubbing.
For an adult (permanent) tooth, gently reinsert it into its socket if you can, then head straight to us.
Don't try to put a baby tooth back — reinserting it risks damaging the adult tooth developing underneath. Bring your child, and the tooth, straight to us instead.
Call us on (03) 9560 2702 as you leave so we can be ready for you the moment you arrive.
Time is critical for the survival of the dental tissues — and ultimately for the successful replacement of your tooth.
Many dental injuries happen during sport. A custom-made mouthguard fits properly and comfortably, so it actually gets worn — ask about one at your child's next check-up.
Dental pain rarely checks the clock. If something happens in the evening or over the weekend, call us on (03) 9560 2702 as early as you can on the next business day — we keep emergency appointments open every day and will fit you in as quickly as we can.
One important exception: severe facial swelling that affects your breathing or swallowing needs urgent hospital care. Don't wait for a dental appointment — go to your nearest hospital emergency department.
